Part 2 of 3:
This was the 2nd out of 3 workshops we have planned for post COVID-19 recovery. It was a tremendous success, people from different backgrounds, different race all were invited to this free online event and Carolyn Barber from the Good Mental Health Cooperative was our special guest speaker.
The COVID-19 pandemic has taken its toll on all of us emotionally and psychologically, and many people in our communities are experiencing intense feelings of anxiety, anger, frustration, sadness, and fears for the future. Given the extent of suffering and distress driven by COVID-19 and all the social issues, it is no wonder that poor mental health has increased.
During the workshop, Carolyn Barber introduced her five components framework – Character, Composure, Connection, Creativity and Challenge. Carolyn further went on to talk about the core components and how this can help us build our emotional resilience and navigate the challenges we are currently facing. From the feedback we have received, everyone thoroughly enjoyed the workshop and learned a lot from it.

As a leader in my community in Leicester, Mental Health is almost a taboo subject that we hardly talk about simply because we don’t know much about the subject and also because people in my community are embarrassed to come forward and talk about it as it is perceived as weakness and stigmatised. Following on from our previous workshop on the mental health challenges of a pandemic, and the five components of good mental health, on the 18th July the workshop will be about exploring how we can build ourselves up psychologically as lockdown lifts and we begin to navigate the risks and benefits of returning to the new ‘normal’. Be sure not to miss it.
